Tupac Amaru Shakur was born Lesane Crooks on June 19, 1971. The man so affectionately known as the godfather of West Coast gangster rap was raised by his mother, Afeni Shakur. Afeni was a dedicated black panther and gave birth to Tupac in jail. Tupac's life did not get any easier.
Growing up in poverty and a mother who had an addiction to crack. Tupac, however, was a survivor. He enjoyed reading, poetry and literature. His love for art soon won a scholarship from the School of Art in Baltimore in which he finished in his first work as lead for the play "Raisin in the Sun".
After going through school, Tupac got a job as a backup dancer for the upcoming rap group Digital Underground. He received the honor of touring the country with the group and soon discovered their own skills on the microphone when Digital Underground allowed one hit in their single "Same Song". This was Tupac's big break.
Tupac subsequently signed Death Row Records, which was owned by the notorious bandit Suge Knight. Tupac prospered on the label with his 1991 debut record "2Pacalypse Now". The album was certified gold and sold millions of copies.
Tupac short career and life ended on 7 September 1996. He was shot after attending a fight in Las Vegas. In the Las Vegas Strip, a car approached his black Mercedes at a red light and opened fire. Tupac was murdered and Suge Knight escaped with injuries mild. To this day, the murderer has not been found and no suspects.
Throughout all the legal problems, controversial lyrics and his gangster lifestyle, Tupac was a role model. He showed his love for his people and for all people by funding programs for inner city youth and adults. Tupac was known for being very kind to his fans of all ages and races. Proved to be a "Rose That Grew From Concrete" in making something of his life in the rough. He is the inspiration to all.
This is a brief synopsis of a man whose passion, drive, emotion, positive contributions and life can be described only in a novel. Follow your dreams.
