I am a big fan of A Tribe Called Quest and a few months ago, where rumors of a comeback album. I was very excited because, as I said, I am a huge fan and a pitch disk group as talented rappers encourage others to do a lot more effort into his craft. That's what I thought then ….
Since then I've noticed something, the Much of the return just do not work. It is unfortunate, but it's true, and the further back the artist is the more difficult it is for them to give new momentum. Everything is based on a key, relevance. When I use the term is not simply important for today's music, but of interest to society as a whole.
Let me use an example, say that a large and popular artist of the mid-90s is motivated to release an album and expects the same success from the time he reigned (supporting what many come do). Well, Average Performers of "then" is not much more than commercial success, since they are not relevant to the people's minds, not only because they are old, but because the material is. Usually when an artist decides to return (despite all the "love me" speech) is for financial reasons, and because the main objective is to make money not take the time to research and adaptation, but use similar material that had used during the time they expect the same results. Then we have other artists who do research, but instead of applying his style to make the material especially with the they just copy what is working now.
After a failed attempt, and an investment loss of artist and label (The deserve some blame too) should realize that music is not a cash cow and like any art, to be successful both the uniqueness and the factors innovation must play a role, so that if an artist is based on the same old formulas that cross the innovation factor and if an artist is based on what already there crosses the uniqueness factor.
In conclusion, if an artist has a great legacy in the past and that he or she left on a good note, not the best idea to try to renew this forgotten race. Even Michael Jordan suffered from that, after leaving the NBA on a positive note again played for attendees and I'm pretty sure everyone forgot how he left that team. I mean, if an artist wants to return it to them, but the risk is very high and the experience there a good probability that the attempt to give negative results.
