festival hip hop barcelona

"I'm from Barcelona" is possibly the most misleading pop act to ever come across – first are not actually in Barcelona, but in fact hail from Jönköping, Sweden, and stranger still, they sing in English, not Swedish (or Spanish!). Secondly, there is an artist in alone as first-person context the name implies, but in reality a set of twenty piece of singers and musicians. So why all the subterfuge?

Group founder and singer Emanuel Lundgren says he was influenced by the name of the sentence in favor of Manuel, the incompetent Spanish waiter (played by Andrew Sachs) in the 70 iconic British comedy television series, Fawlty Towers.

Imagine How appropriate was when Lundgren picked up the "I'm from Barcelona" troops to play a presentation as part of the Primavera Sound Festival Rock in 2006 – is, fortunately has, in the heart of Barcelona!

Lundgren is not the only musician who had adopted the name and spirit of the second largest city in Spain through his art, however. Barcelona was also the lyrical theme (and title) of the second solo album to be recorded by the late Queen lead singer, Freddie Mercury. The song of the same name became one of the Biggest solo hits of Mercury when it was a deathbed statement to coincide with it song chosen as the 1992 Olympic Games.

So not only is Barcelona, apparently very attractive to the musician in a literal sense, but more and more in a physical sense, with the city in hosting annually to two major musical events during the summer months – the aforementioned Rock Festival Primavera Sound and Sonar Music Festival.

Each festival is very peculiar musical trends, and often the two will appeal to and serve a completely different audience. Primavera Sound tends to lean towards the post-rock and more avant-garde and underground acts, and became in 2007 by The White Stripes, The Fall and Sonic Youth, playing their seminal 1988 album Daydream Nation in its entirety. Other underground heroes such as Melvins, Slint, Dirty Three and Blonde Redhead were also present at the festival, along with more rock traditional acts such as Billy Bragg and The Good, The Bad & The Queen.

Alternatively, Sonar tends to focus on electronic forms music and dance, drum 'n bass and hip-hop, and saw groups of high level this year of the Beastie Boys, Chemical Brothers, Bjork and LCD Soundsystem. Unlike many other major European festivals, Sonar is ideal for those who prefer to sleep in a comfortable bed, rather than in stores in the outdoor event is the only city based, the hotels in Barcelona range from cheap and cheerful, the extravagant appearance, and are perfect for those attending the festival not as interested in the more traditional forms of accommodation Music Festival.
